Senecio niveoplanus

Erect annuals to 1.2 m high; stems coarse-hairy, density reducing upwards. Leaves pseudopetiolate, becoming auriculate upwards, narrow-elliptic or lanceolate, 7–16 cm long, 5–30 mm wide, coarse-dentate to lobate with denticulate to dentate margins, both surfaces coarse-hairy; lower surface commonly purple, sometimes with a cobwebby overlay. Inflorescences corymbose, typically with 30–100 capitula; capitula non-radiate; involucre cylindric, 6.0–8.0 mm long, glabrous; bracts 8–13; bracteoles present; florets 15–25, bisexual and female. Cypselas narrow oblong-ellipsoid, 3.0–4.0 mm long, olive brown, glabrous; pappus of slender hairs 6–7 mm long, deciduous. Flowers late summer–autumn.
