Camptochaete arbuscula var. arbuscula
Wefts on tree bases and logs. Secondary stems 5–9 cm long; central strand indistinct. Stipes usually well developed, (10–) 15–20 mm long. Fronds 2–4.5 cm wide, irregularly bipinnately branched. Stipe leaves appressed, imbricate, broadly ovate to oblong, 1.4–1.6 mm long, 1.6–1.7 mm wide, moderately concave; apex obtuse, mucronate or not; margins denticulate at apex, plane or erect. Frond axis leaves patent, mostly complanate, broadly oblong-ovate or suborbicular, 1.5–2.5 (–3) mm long, 1.25–1.75 mm wide, strongly concave and often conduplicate, smooth when moist, wrinkled when dry; apex obtuse to acute; margins entire or weakly denticulate toward apices, erect. Branch leaves 1.1–1.5 mm long, 0.8–1.25 mm wide. Costa weak, double and failing below mid-leaf or sometimes absent. Mid-laminar cells linear, 35–60 μm long, 5–8 μm wide; laminal cells near apex 12–30 μm long, 8–10 μm wide; alar cells quadrate, irregular or rectangular, c. 3–20 μm long, 3–10 μm wide, forming a group that extends c. 12 cells toward apices and c. 8 cells wide. Seta 4–5 (–15) mm long, reddish-brown, smooth. Capsule erect to horizontal, ellipsoid, straight, 1.8–2 mm long. Operculum conic, sometimes apiculate, c. 0.6 mm long.

Mostly in cool-temperate rainforest, and occasionally in wet-sclerophyll forest, in the Otways, Dandenongs, Yarra Ranges and west slopes of the Baw Baw Plateau, Strzelecki Ranges and Errinundra Plateau and in warm-temperate rainforest on Mount Drummer. Also NSW and Tas. New Zealand and Auckland, Campbell and Chatham Islands.
