Herb 25–70 cm high. Basal leaves c. 50–60 cm long. Inflorescence unbranched, flowers c. 1.5–2.5 cm apart. Primary bracts 1.0–2.5 cm long, green below, dry and brownish above. Flowers red-orange to purple or pink, zygomorphic. Perianth tube 3.5–4.5 cm long, curved in basal half; lobes c. 1 cm long, 5–6 mm wide, hardly spreading. Stamens asymmetrically arranged to one side of the flower; anthers c. 5 mm long, yellow; staminodes absent. Style shorter than perianth. Capsule fusiform, 1.5–2.5(–3.0) cm long. Bulbils absent. Flowers Oct.
VRiv, GipP, CVU. Also naturalised in WA. Known from grassy woodland on roadside near Benalla.
