Tortula recurvata
Hook.Autoicous. Asexual propagules absent. in dense turves on soil. Stems to 3 mm long,. Leaves spreading when moist, imbricate and twisted around stem when dry, oblong to oblong-lanceolate, 1.5–3 mm long, 0.6–0.7 mm wide, slightly concave; apices acute to acuminate; costae excurrent as a mucro; margins entire, revolute toward apices, with 4–6 rows of smooth cells forming a border; laminal cells in apical half rounded-hexagonal to subquadrate, pluripapillose; laminal cells at base rectangular, smooth. Seta 10–20 mm long, yellow to reddish, smooth. Capsules erect, ovoid to cylindric, straight, 1–2.5 mm long. Operculum obliquely rostrate, c. 0.3–0.8 mm long. Peristome of 32 straight or slightly twisted filaments.
LoM, VVP, GipP, CVU, GGr, DunT, HSF. Recorded sporadically through Victoria (e.g. Hattah, the Grampians, Broadford, Melbourne metropolitan area and the Latrobe River) on bare soil exposed by disturbance, in built up areas and near waterways. Also WA, SA, NSW, ACT and Tas. South Africa.
