Prostrate perennial herb forming dense mats to c. 40 cm diam., sometimes rooting from lower nodes; stems hispid. Fused stipules truncate, with 5 or 7 coarse, erect bristles to ca. 5 mm long. Leaves ovate, 8–20 mm long, 5–10 mm wide, acute, lamina densely hispid on both surfaces. Inflorescences mostly 10–20-flowered, subtended by usually 4 bracts, resembling but slightly shorter and relatively broader than leaves. Calyx 4-lobed, lobes spreading, triangular, 1..5–2 mm long, shortly united near base, margins ciliate; corolla rotate, 4-lobed, white, soon falling, lobes c. 1 mm long, shortly and sparsely hispid on outer surface, tube c. 0.5 mm long, glabrous; stamens 4, c. 0.5 mm long, style 1–1.3 mm long; stigma 3- or 4-lobed. Mericarps 4 (rarely 3), ovate, plano-convex, 1.5–2 mm long, smooth, pale brown. Flowers Jan.–Feb. (1 record only).
HNF. Also naturalised NSW. Native to South America. Known only from roadsides near Whitfield in north-east Victoria, first collected Jan. 2015, otherwise known in Australia only from near-coastal sites in central to southern New South Wales.
