Usually growing on bark, occasionally peat or humus. Leaves lanceolate, less than 5 times as long as wide; apex acute; costa ending 2–4 cells below apex. Dioicous or rhizautoicous. Setae 2–3 mm long. Calyptra smooth to slightly scabrous, cucullate.
Rarely recorded in Victoria, mostly from near streams and roadsides near Melbourne (e.g. Wombelano Falls near Kinglake and Labertouche). Also WA, SA, QLD, NSW and Tas. New Zealand and New Caledonia.
