Fissidens tenellus
Hook.f. & WilsonAsexual propagules absent. Loosely or densely gregarious stems on soil, rock or bark. Stems 1–3 (–5) mm long, occasionally branched, central strand narrow, with rhizoids at stem bases and branches. Leaves linear-lanceolate, slightly falcate, little altered when dry, 0.75–1.25 mm long, flat; costa subpercurrent to percurrent; apex acute or acuminate. Apical and dorsal laminae margins crenulated to denticulate, without a border; cells ±isodiametric, irregularly quadrate to hexagonal, 6–12 μm wide, papillose or mammillose. Vaginant laminae 2/5–1/2 leaf length, partly open, with 3–6 rows of narrower elongate cells forming a border, occasionally intramarginal. Autoicous, rhizautoicous or dioicous. Seta 2–5 (–10) mm long, light brown. Capsule narrowly oblong, vertical, straight; theca 0.4–0.7 mm long. Calyptra smooth or papillose, mitrate or cucullate. Operculum rostrate from a conic base, 0.4–0.7 mm long. Peristome teeth bifid.
