Tortula truncata
(Hedw.) Mitt.Autoicous. Plants (3–) 4–7 (–8) mm tall in loose turves to gregarious on soil. Asexual propagules absent. Stems 1–5 (–7) mm long, simple or branched. Leaves erect-patent to spreading when moist, incurved, erect or erect patent to slightly twisted when dry, elliptic to obovate, more rarely oblong-eliptic, (1.3–) 2–2.4 mm long, (0.5–) 0.8–1.1 mm wide, flat to slightly concave, unistratose; apices obtuse, sometimes apiculate; costae percurrent or excurrent in a smooth yellowish or brown mucro; margins entire, rarely slightly denticulate near apex, recurved in basal half, at base, or sometimes only along one margin or completely plane, usually without a border, sometimes marginal row of cells thicker walled; laminal cells in apical half hexagonal to quadrate-hexagonal or rectangular, (10–) 17.5–27.5 (–37.5) μm long, (10–) 15–20 (–30) μm wide, smooth or papillose; laminal cells near base rectangular, (32.5–) 50–102.5 μm long, (10–) 25–32.5 (–37.5) μm wide, shortest at margins, smooth. Seta 2.5–4 (–6) mm long, yellowish to orange, smooth. Capsules erect, urceolate or obovoid, straight, 0.6–1 mm long. Operculum rostrate, 0.3–0.5 mm long. Peristome absent.
