Pterygoneurum ovatum
(Hedw.) DixonPlants 1–2.5 mm tall. Leaves weakly spreading when moist, appressed when dry, elliptic to broadly obovate 0.8–1 mm long, 0.55–0.65 mm wide, concave, rarely with short filaments ; apices obtuse; costae adaxially with 2–4 lamellae, excurrent as a smooth hyaline hair-point 0.45–0.55 mm long; margins entire or slightly denticulate at apices in young leaves, incurved in apical half; laminal cells in apical half rounded quadrate to irregularly hexagonal, ±isodiametric, 13–15 μm wide, smooth; basal cells rectangular, 27–30 μm long, 23–25 μm wide, smooth. Seta 2.5–3.5 mm long, yellow brown. Capsules shortly exserted, erect, ovoid or shortly cylindric, 0.65–0.75 mm long. Operculum rostrate from low conic base, c. 0.6 mm long.
LoM, MuM, Wim, VRiv, RobP, MuF. In the north-west on the edges on lakes or other areas of bare soil among mallee, woodland or in anthropogenic sites such as cemeteries. Also WA, SA and NSW. Cosmopolitan.
