Sphaeromorphaea littoralis
(Retz.) A.R.BeanProstrate to ascending, glabrous to weakly pubescent annual or perennial herb 3–25 cm high. Leaves pseudopetiolate, obovate to spathulate, 1–6 cm long, 4–15 mm wide, apex obtuse, margins shallowly crenate or serrate. Capitula sessile or subsessile, broadly hemispherical, 4–7 mm diam., solitary in leaf-axils, heterogamous; involucral bracts obovate, 1–3 mm long, obtuse or rounded. Outer florets female, c. 200, 7- or 8-seriate; inner florets longer, 16–40, bisexual, fertile, 4-lobed; cypselas cylindric, 0.7–1.5 mm long, 8–14-ribbed, glandular; inner cypselas sometimes broader than outer; pappus a small scarious rim. Flowers mainly spring and summer.
LoM, MuM, Wim, VRiv, MSB, RobP, MuF, CVU, DunT, NIS. Scattered across northern Victoria from Walwa in the east to the South Australian border in the west, and found as far south as the Little Desert. Grows primarily on heavy clay soils that are prone to inundation.
