Hyalosperma semisterile
(F.Muell.) Paul G.WilsonErect glabrous or sparsely cottony herb to 15 cm high, simple or branched at basal and upper nodes. Leaves semi-terete, 5–15 mm long, obtuse to acute, the upper ones with hyaline appendages. Capitula broadly hemispherical at anthesis, 8–13(–15) mm diam. when fully expanded; involucral bracts multiseriate, outer bracts obtuse or rounded, colourless to pale brown, inner bracts with bright yellow laminae 2–5 mm long; receptacle flat to convex; florets numerous, bisexual except for few central functionally male ones, corolla 5-lobed. Cypselas compressed-ovoid, c. 1.5 mm long, strongly papillose; pappus bristles c. 12, plumose for most of their length, not or barely dilated in the lower half, united at base. Flowers Aug.–Oct.
LoM, MuM, Wim, VRiv, MSB, MuF, Gold, NIS. Also SA, Qld, NSW. Common in herbfields in the north-west of the State, also in mallee Eucalyptus associations and Callitris woodland.
