Annuals. Inflorescence a panicle. Spikelets several-flowered; glumes paired, subequal and persistent, 5–7-nerved; lemmas 9-nerved, dorsally rounded, notched at the apex with a short mucro inserted at the base of the notch, ciliate along the lateral margins; palea cuneate; stamens 3.
5 species, from Africa, the Mediterranean and western and central Asia; 2 naturalised in Australia, 1 in Victoria.
