Rhizome erect or shortly creeping, thick, scaly. Fronds clustered, variously pinnate, glabrous or rarely hairy. Stipe and rachis narrowly and deeply grooved on upper surface. Sori continuous along lamina margin or sometimes broken; protected by recurved margin opening inwards; spores tetrahedral.
About 280 species world-wide; 14 in Australia, 5 in Victoria.
