Pterostylis ×ingens
(Rupp) D.L.JonesFlowering plant to 50 cm tall. Rosette leaves 3–7, oblong-ovate, 2–7 cm long, 1–2.5 cm wide, petiolate, margins wavy to crisped. Flower 3–4 cm long, semi-nodding, white and green with brown towards the decurved apex of the galea; dorsal sepal acute to acuminate; lateral sepals erect, scabrous, loosely embracing the galea leaving a lateral gap, sinus broadly V-shaped when viewed from the front, protruding slightly when viewed from the side, free points linear-tapered, 1.8–2.2 cm long, divergent, erect or recurved; petals narrow, subacute. Labellum oblong-lanceolate, 16–18 mm long, 4–5 mm wide, brown, scabrous, apex blunt, curved, distal third protruding from the sinus in the set position. Flowers Aug.–Nov.
Wim, GleP, VVP, VRiv, GipP, OtP, Gold, CVU, GGr, DunT, NIS, EGL, EGU, HSF, HNF, Strz. Also NSW, ?Tas. Favours moist areas around swamps and stream banks on heavy soils.
A sporadic natural hybrid between Pterostylis nutans and P. falcata, forming clonal colonies.
Pterostylis acuminata differs from P. ×ingens in its acuminate labellum, smooth lateral sepals and labellum and autumn flowering time.
