Erect annual or perennial herbs. Leaves opposite, sessile or petiolate, simple, entire to serrate. Capitula hemispherical, discoid, terminal, cymose; involucral bracts 2-seriate, equal to subequal, narrowly oblong to oblong-lanceolate, herbaceous; receptacle convex, naked. Florets white, bisexual, 5-lobed, narrowly funnelform; outer surface with shortly stalked glands; anther appendages small, wider than long, acute at base; style glabrous, branches very broadly oar-shaped, tuberculate abaxially, smooth adaxially. Cypselas slightly curved, prismatic, 4- or 5-ribbed, glandular between ribs; ribs sometimes corky; pappus absent.
5 species native to Central and South America; 1 species naturalised in Australia.
