Craspedia sylvestris
J.Everett ex N.G.WalshRosetted perennial with 1 or 2 flowering scapes 50–70 cm high; roots, thick, spreading, woolly. Basal leaves spreading to ascending, very broadly spathulate, the blade 60–100 mm long, 20–40 mm wide, tapered to a rather distinct, red-tinged petiole 30–70 mm long; surfaces slightly rough with sparse multiseptate hairs and often with sparse woolly hairs on the margins; secondary veins conspicuous; scape leaves usually with broad amplexicaul bases. Inflorescence orange, c. globular 2–3 cm diam., with 40–70 capitula; scape often red-tinged, sparsely woolly. Capitula with 8–10 florets; bract subtending capitulum broadly ovate, margins membranous, dark brown or colourless, stereome broadly ovate, minutely glandular, base woolly. Cypselas 1–2 mm long, 0.2–1.5 mm wide; pappus 3–5 mm long Flowers summer.
VAlp. Endemic in Victoria. Occasional in montane to subalpine woodland and forest through much of the Victorian alps (e.g. The Bluff, Mts Matlock, Mts Buffalo, Buller, Matlock Stirling and St Bernard areas), but apparently absent from the Bogong High Plains and mountains further to the north-east.
