Kiaeria pumila
(Mitt.) OchyraAutoicous. Asexual propagules absent. Turfs on granite rocks, golden, lustrous. Stems 6–13 mm long, blackish-brown, with scattered brown rhizoids near base, with central strand. Leaves narrowly lanceolate, falcate-secund, similar when dry, gradually narrowing into subula, 2.8–3.5 mm long, 0.2–0.4 mm wide, tubulose and sheathing near base; apex subulate; costa 1/6 the width of the leaf base, excurrent; margin entire or with a few teeth at apex, plane without a distinct border; lamina cells in apical half subquadrate to linear, 12–30 μm long; lamina cells in basal half linear, 35–93 μm long, 5–10 μm wide; alar cells subquadrate, 12–30 μm long, 10–18 μm wide, not distinctly inflated, forming a large but poorly defined group. Seta (6–) 8–11 mm long, yellow to reddish with age, smooth. Capsule erect or slightly inclined, oblong-cylindric, slightly curved, 1–1.3 (–1.5) mm long. Operculum obliquely rostrate from conical base, 0.7–1 mm long. Peristome teeth asymmetrically bifid in upper 1/2–2/3.
VAlp. New Zealand. Also Tasmania. Known from a single 2007 record on the Baw Baw Plateau in subalpine woodland.
