  Perennials, rhizomatous herbs. Leaves opposite, petiolate or sessile, simple or dentate, 3-nerved. Capitula campanulate to hemispherical, radiate, solitary in axils, pedunculate; involucral bracts 2–3 seriate, subequal, outer herbaceous, inner membranous with each subtending a ray floret; receptacle convex, with papery scales enclosing disc florets. Ray florets 1-seriate, female, fertile, yellow; style branches filiform with acute hairy terminal appendages. Disc florets bisexual, 5-lobed, yellow; anthers auriculate at base, apex with an ovate appendage. Cypselas 3-angled or ± compressed and weakly 4-angled; pappus absent or a toothed crown.
