Drepanocladus polygamus
(Schimp.) HedenäsAutoicous. Stems irregularly and sparsely branched to ± pinnate, brown, with sparse red-brown rhizoids. Leaves erecto-patent to spreading, straight to falcate, ovate, broadly ovate, or rounded-triangular, concave; apex acuminate; costa single or forked, extending 1/2–2/3 leaf length, or double and ending in basal half, sometimes appearing absent; margins entire, slightly sinuate; laminal cells vermicular, 35–115 μm long, 5–10 μm wide, smooth, shorter at insertion; alar cells quadrate to short-rectangular, 17–40 μm long, 12–20 μm wide, not conspicuously inflated, forming a transversely triangular group extending 2/3 to all the way to the costa; stem leaves 2.4–2.7 mm long, 0.6–0.75 mm wide; branch leaves smaller, mostly 1.3–1.7 mm long, 0.2–0.35 mm wide. Seta 45 mm long, orange, smooth. Capsule horizontal, cylindric, curved, c. 2.5 mm long. Operculum rostrate from low conic base, c. 0.5 mm long.
GleP, GipP, EGL, WPro, VAlp. In streams, swamps and pools throughout southern Victoria and in the Victorian Alps. Also SA, NSW, ACT and Tas. Cosmopolitan.
