Eclipta platyglossa subsp. platyglossa
Prostrate to ascending annual or biennial, to c. 25 cm high; stems rooting at nodes, glabrous or with sparse appressed hairs. Leaves narrow-lanceolate, 1.5–7 cm long, 2–7 mm wide, surfaces appressed-hairy. Capitula campanulate, solitary in leaf-axils, 3–4 mm diam. at anthesis; peduncles to 3 cm long; involucral bracts 8–10, lanceolate, 3–5 mm long, acute, sparsely hairy. Ray florets 8–12, c. as long as involucre, ligules 1–2 mm long, yellow; disc florets 8–13, yellow. Cypselas not strongly dimorphic, compressed-cylindric, 2.5–3.5 mm long, smooth to tuberculate, dark brown; pappus a ciliolate rim c. 0.5 mm high. Flowers Sep.–Feb.
LoM, MuM, Wim, VVP, VRiv, MSB, RobP, MuF, GipP, OtP, Gold, CVU, NIS, HNF. In Victoria scattered mainly across the north (but with a few isolated occurrences between Melbourne and Geelong), usually on heavy soils, near water or in areas prone to inundation.
Subsp. borealis E.W.Cross & Orchard, described in 2013, occurs in WA, NT and Qld.
