Annual, biennial or occasionally perennial herbs, with simple bristles. Leaves lobed to toothed. Inflorescence a corymbose, branched raceme. Sepals almost erect; petals clawed, yellow; stamens 6; ovary sessile. Fruit elongate (at least 3 times as long as broad, excluding beak), cylindric; style short, stigma capitate, entire or bilobed; valves with 3 prominent veins; beak short and swollen; seeds 6–12 in valve region, 1 row per locule, 0–2 in beak.
2 species from the Mediterranean region; 1 naturalised in Australia.
