Dioicous. Plants dark green to yellow-green, on soil or rocks. Stems 4–26 mm long. Leaves widely spreading when moist, appressed to crisped when dry, narrowly spathulate to elliptic or oblong, 2.5–3.5 mm long; apex broadly acute to obtuse, cuspidate; costa short-excurrent; margins entire, plane; laminal cells in apical half quadrate to subquadrate, papillose; basal laminal cells rectangular, hyaline, smooth, extending a similar distance toward apex throughout. Seta 5–10 mm long, yellowish. Capsule short-cylindric, 1.5 mm long. Peristome absent or rudimentary. Operculum rostrate, c. 1 mm long.
GipP, GGr, EGL, EGU, HSF, HNF, OtR. Widespread but infrequently recorded along and south of the Great Dividing Range in sclerophyll woodlands and forests and in town parks. All states and territories. Temperate to tropical regions throughout the world.
