Perennials, mostly caespitose; rhizome contracted, rarely creeping. Leaves convolute-terete, often filiform. Inflorescence contracted into a dense head or short, spike-like panicle. Spikelets 1-flowered; glumes persistent; lemma firm, deeply divided into 3 equal lobes or awns; palea subequal to lemma, with 2 lobes resembling those of the lemma, almost wholly enveloped by lemma; stamens 3.
9 species, all endemic to mainland Australia, occurring mostly in drier parts; 2 in Victoria.
