Rhizomatous and/or stoloniferous perennials. Ligule membranous, sometimes fringed. Inflorescence a panicle or raceme with spikelets appressed to their branches; panicle branches terminated by a bristle. Spikelet 2-flowered, the lower male and the upper female; glumes 2, falling with the spikelet.
About 5 species, from Asia, with 3 extending to Australia; 2 in Victoria.
