Erect clonal shrub 15–30 cm high, grey- or silver-green, densely pubescent with stellate hairs; prickles 2–5 mm long, straight or curved, mainly on stems. Leaves oblong, mostly 1–5 cm long, 3–10 mm wide, often folded, apex obtuse, base cuneate to truncate, margins entire or slightly undulate, concolorous, both surfaces densely pubescent; upper leaf surface stellate hairs with 8-9 lateral rays; petiole 3–5(–15) mm long. Inflorescences simple, 1–6-flowered; peduncle to 1 cm long. Flowers 4- or 5-merous sometimes on the same plant, bisexual, on pedicels 10–15 mm long, elongating slightly in fruit; calyx 4–8 mm long, accrescent in fruit, lobes triangular, 1–5 mm long; corolla rotate-stellate, almost square in 4-lobed flowers, 20–30 mm diam., violet, lobes broad, acute; anthers 3.5–7 mm long. Berry depressed-globose, 8–15 mm diam., yellow to yellow-brown; seeds 2–3 mm long, pale brown. Flowers mostly spring and summer.
MuM, MuF. Also WA, NT, SA, Qld, NSW. In Victoria, known only from near Annuello in the far north-west.
