Isoetes drummondii
A.Braun Plain QuillwortLeaves erect or spreading, narrowly cylindric and tapering, 3-20 (rarely to 30) cm long; bases abruptly widened, flattened, overlapping, spoon-shaped, lateral margins pale and papery. Mega-sporangia broadly elliptical (orbicular in outer leaves, more elongate in inner leaves), 6-10 mm long, wall liver-brown and shiny when mature; megaspores 50-200 per sporangium (in outer leaves), white, globular or flattened (and sometimes joined together to be irregular dumb-bell shaped), tuberculate. Microsporangia present or absent.

2 subspecies of I. drummondii, separated morphologically and cytologically, are found in Victoria. Both varieties grow in mud or temporary water in winter and spring, and are found mostly in the western half of Victoria.
