Frankenia pulverulenta
L.Prostrate annual herb, stems to 40 cm long, branches not differentiated into long- and short-shoots; branches sparsely to densely covered in spreading to incurved hairs; internodes 3–14 mm long. Leaves 2–6 mm long; petiole 1–2 mm long, narrowed markedly and more or less cylindric distally where 0.2–0.4 mm wide, ciliate; leaf-blade obovate or oblong-elliptic; flattened with margins slightly revolute; midrib inconspicuous to sometimes slightly raised on lower surface; surfaces greyish yellow-green, upper surface glabrous, lower surface with spreading to appressed, incurved hairs. Flowers solitary or in terminal or axillary dichasia. Calyx 5-lobed, 2–4 mm long, c. 1 mm wide, glabrous to sparsely hairy, lobes spreading; petals (4–)5, 2–5 mm long; stamens 6; style-branches 3; ovules c. 25–60. Flowers most of year.
MuM, VVP, OtP. Also naturalised WA, SA, NSW. Native to the Mediterranean region. Occasionally reported from major ports in Australia and collected from the Geelong foreshore in 1908; also naturalised near a sports oval in Mildura.
