Annual herbs, glabrous or with simple hairs. Leaves lobed. Inflorescence a raceme. Sepals erect; petals clawed, white to pale yellow with purple veins; stamens 6; ovary sessile. Fruit elongate (at least 3 times as long as broad, excluding beak), sessile; stigma bilobed; valves flattened, with 1 prominent vein; beak large, flattened; seeds numerous, subglobose to ovoid, 2 rows per locule (at least in middle portion of fruit), beak seedless.
5 species, mostly from Mediterranean and northern Africa; 1 species an established weed in Australia.
