Cauline leaves numerous near base, fewer above, sessile. Capitula usually 1–40; involucre 5–10 mm diam. at anthesis; involucral bracts with 0–2 lines of hairs along midrib. Ligules 12–19 mm long. Cypselas mostly 4.5–6 mm long, beak much shorter than body; pappus bristles mostly 6.5–8.5 mm long. Flowers mostly Oct.–Apr.
GipP, CVU, GGr, NIS, EGU, HSF, HNF, MonT, HFE, VAlp. Also NSW, ACT, Tas. In mountainous areas of eastern Victoria, usually at altitudes above c. 700 m, with two old records in the west (Ballarat and the Grampians). Found in alpine herbfield, grassland and woodland as well as wet and dry montane sclerophyll forests.
