Stout biennial to 1.8 m high, taproot swollen; stem prominently striate and angled, often hollow. Leaves pinnate, lamina to 18 cm long, 14 cm wide; leaflets 9–23, oblong to ovate, 5–10 cm long, 2.5–8 cm wide, coarsely, often deeply toothed; petiole 5–21 cm long. Umbels 3–20 cm diam.; common peduncle stout, 7–15 cm long; rays of terminal umbel 9–20, unequal, to 6 cm long; bracts often pinnately lobed, sometimes absent; umbellules 5–30-flowered, pedicels 5–10 mm long. Petals c. 1 mm long, yellow. Fruit broad elliptic, 5–7 mm long. Flowers Nov.–Feb.
HNF. An uncommon weed of cool, usually moist areas, usually locally escaping from cultivation (outer Melbourne, Mirimbah near Mt Buller and Falls Creek alpine villages).
