Pentameris
Annuals or perennials. Inflorescence a panicle with capillary branches. Spikelets 2-flowered; glumes paired, subequal, persistent, hyaline, 1-nerved; lemmas 5–7-nerved, membranous, with a terminal, basally twisted awn and 2 shorter lateral awns which are usually flanked on the lemma margin by a pair of short teeth (absent in the Victorian species); palea hyaline; stamens 3.
83 species, mainly from temperate Africa, 2 naturalised in Australia, both in Victoria.
Pentaschistis, although the larger genus prior to being synonymised under Pentameris was described later, hence Pentameris has priority.
