2 subspecies, only Hakea salicifolia subsp. salicifolia in Victoria. Hakea salicifolia subsp. angustifolia (A.A.Ham.) W.R.Barker is distinguished by its narrower leaves (4–7 mm wide c.f. 7–20(–27) mm in H. salicifolia subsp. salicifolia). Profile provided under subspecies.
