Rhizome filiform. Fronds simple and grass-like. Sporocarps solitary in axil of sterile frond, sessile or shortly pedunculate, divided into 2 or 4 loculi containing microsporangia and megasporangia.
6 species world-wide; 1 in Australia. Confined to temperate, swampy areas.
