Late GoldenrodErect herb to 2 m high, with short to long creeping rhizome; stem shortly hairy or sometimes glabrescent near base. Leaves entire to serrate, with 1 prominent nerve; basal leaves withered at flowering; cauline leaves sessile or subsessile, oblanceolate to lanceolate, 30–170 mm long, 5–25 mm wide, becoming smaller upwards, abaxially finely strigose, adaxially more or less scabrous, base cuneate, apex acute to acuminate. Inflorescences pyramidal and secund panicles or clavate thryses; capitula usually 100 to greater than 1000; peduncle with dense short hairs, sometimes minutely glandular; involucres 3–4 mm long; involucral bracts lanceolate or linear-lanceolate, unequal, margins rarely minutely glandular, acute to obtuse; ray florets (5–)8–13(–17), yellow; disc florets (2–)3–6(–9), 2.3–3.6 mm long; cypselas narrowly obconic, 0.5–1.5 mm long; pappus 2.5–3.5 mm long. Flowers autumn.
VVP, VRiv, GipP, CVU, HSF, Strz. Also naturalised WA, SA, Qld, NSW. Native to North America. In roadsides and along waterways near town centres. Currently known from Boolara, Korumburra, Kooyong and Wangaratta.
