(Cav.) Bertol. Big Heron's-billVegetatively resembling E. brachycarpum. Inflorescence (1–)2(–3)-flowered; peduncle 2–7 cm long (to 20 cm in fruit); pedicels 10–23 mm long; sepals 5–9 mm long (to 14 mm in fruit), densely hairy with glandular and eglandular hairs; petals slightly longer that sepals, pink or blue. Mericarps 8–10 mm long, with 2 or 3 deep, glabrous furrows on either side at base of awn, the furrows separated by an acute, narrowly winged papery fold; awn (7.5–)8.5–11 cm long. Flowers May–Nov.

A widespread and common weed of roadsides, pasture, grasslands and grassy woodlands, mostly on fertile soils in the north of the State.
