Native to northern Africa and southern Europe.
Glabrous annual plants to 50 cm high with large pinkish flowers 2–3 cm diam., often grown as garden ornamentals. In the past this species many have occurred in Victoria as an ephemeral escape, and has not been recorded since 1874.
