GleP, GipP, EGL. Native to WA, also naturalised in ?SA, NSW, Tas. Pink-red-flowered and lemon-green-flowered forms of this species have been observed outside cultivation in Victoria, particularly in coastal or other sandy areas. The pink-red form is naturalised in sandy country south of Cann River, and there are likely to be numerous other adventive plants in close proximity to source populations in settled areas.
This species and hybrid cultivars of it are the most commonly grown Kangaroo Paws in Victoria. Plants are often quite vigorous and come in a range of different flower colours. Cultivated hybrids are sterile and pose little threat of escaping horticulture, however, true forms of this species are fertile, and may even be capable of self-fertilisation and have become weedy in eastern Australia and South Africa.
