Anigozanthos
Labill.Perennial, rhizomatous, often cespitose herbs. Rhizome simple, short. Leaves lanceolate or linear, entire, flat or subterete, glabrous or hirsute. Scape erect, simple or branched. Inflorescence a one-sided raceme. Flowers zygomorphic; perianth colour various, tomentose externally, tubular, tube shortly or deeply split forming a straight or falcate hood, tepals valvate, in a single whorl, lobes erect to recurved; stamens 6, inserted near base of perianth lobes; ovary inferior; ovules 2–many per locule; style filiform, straight basally, curved above. Fruit a 3-locular capsule, splitting apically only.
11 species endemic to south-western Western Australia, 1 species naturalised in Victoria.
Closely related to the monotypic genus Macropidia Benth. which is sometimes included in Anigozanthos.
Widely grown as an ornamental and for the cut flower trade.
