Terrestrial perennial; stolons present. Leaves rosetted and on stolons, narrow-linear to broad-elliptic, to c. 14 cm long and c. 5 mm wide. Traps numerous on stolons, globose or ovoid, 1–5 mm long. Racemes 1-several, erect, 10–50 cm long, 1–9-flowered; sterile bracts absent; fertile bracts more or less basifixed, oblong to ovate, 1.5–2 mm long; bracteoles similar to bracts; calyx-lobes unequal, upper lobe circular to very broad-ovate, 2–5 mm long, lower lobe smaller, ovate, distinctly bifid. Corolla usually 12–22 mm long, mostly dark violet (rarely white); upper lip circular to obovate, rounded or emarginate; lower lip much larger, variable, obtrullate to almost circular, with 2 or 3 (rarely more) conspicuous yellow (very rarely purple) central ridges flanked by several less conspicuous violet ridges; palate pubescent; spur cylindric, shorter than lower lip, apex obtuse. Capsule globose, 4–5 mm diam.; seeds obovoid, c. 0.5 mm long. Flowers mostly Aug.–Dec. (spasmodically throughout the year).
