Shrub 0.5–2 m high; stem glabrous.Leaves 3.5–8 cm long, 1–2 cm wide, pinnatisect with several ovate to lanceolate lobes to 5 mm wide, glabrous except for occasional tufts of white woolly hair in leaf axils. Capitula solitary or a few together, terminal; peduncles erect, 5–20 cm long; involucral bracts 8–15,ovate to lanceolate, 5–8 mm long, veins inconspicuous, glabrous or with ciliate margins and apical tuft of hairs. Ray florets 8–15, ligules 14–18 mm long, yellow; disc florets 50–125, yellow. Cypselas narrowly obovoid or fusiform, c. 5 mm long, ribbed, glabrous, black; pappus absent. Flowers late autumn–winter.
VVP, GipP, OtP, HSF. Also naturalised Qld, NSW. Native to South Africa. A commonly cultivated plant that has become naturalized in wetlands and creek margins, currently only recorded in the northern suburbs of Melbourne and Leongatha in Gippsland.
