Leaves oblong-obovate, (1.3–) 1.5–2.1 mm long, 0.6–0.8 mm wide, concave adaxially; costa subpercurrent to long-excurrent; apex acute, obtuse or acuminate. Seta 9–22 mm long. Capsule obovoid-cylindric or obovoid, 1.5–1.8 (–2) mm long. Operculum low conic. Peristome double; endostome rudimentary, to c. 1/3 height of teeth. Spores finely lirate-murate, 32–39 (–45) μm diameter.
MuM, Wim, GleP, VVP, VRiv, MSB, GipP, OtP, WaP, Gold, CVU, GGr, DunT, NIS, EGL, EGU, HSF, HNF, OtR, VAlp. Widespread throughout Australia on bare soil in disturbed sites (e.g. roadsides), open areas, near creeks, swamps and in drainage lines, and among sclerophyll woodland. New Zealand.
