Cuscuta chinensis
Lam.Stems yellowish. Inflorescence a dense glomerule or rarely umbelliform, subtended by a small, narrowly triangular, keeled bract. Flowers 5-merous; pedicels as long as or slightly longer than calyx; calyx 2.5–3 mm long, lobes triangular-ovate, thickened and fleshy towards the apex forming a carina, also thickened below sinuses, slightly overlapping, obtuse to subacute, 2–2.5 mm longer than the tube; corolla 3–3.5 mm long, white, lobes triangular-ovate, acute or obtuse, fleshy, tip often inflexed, equal to or shorter than tube; filaments 0.8–1.5 mm long, longer than anthers; scales subtending stamens large, oblong, reaching base of the filaments, with a long to medium length fringe; stigmas capitate. Capsule depressed-globose, 2.5–3.5 mm diam., irregularly dehiscent; seeds c. 1.2 mm long, pale brown. Flowers mainly summer and autumn.
Also WA, NT, Qld. Native to temperate and parts of tropical Asia. Based on a single old collection from near Trafalgar in Gippsland, where it was growing on potato plants, and has not been collected in Victoria for over 100 years.
