Craspedia alba

Rhizomatous herb with single flowering scape 9–15 cm high; roots thick, tomentose. Leaves mostly basal, oblong to narrow-oblanceolate, 1.5–5 cm long, 2–5 mm wide, often folded, with 1 main vein evident, both surfaces with dense silvery covering of appressed silky hairs, or lower surface glabrescent; margins sometimes undulate, glabrescent or silky-hairy. Inflorescence white, c. hemispherical, 1–1.5 cm diam., with c. 30–60 capitula; scape red with dense silky hairs. Capitula with 4–5 florets; bract subtending capitulum broadly ovate or cordate, margins broad, membranous, dark brown, stereome ovate to triangular, glandular, base finely woolly. Cypselas 1–1.5 mm long; pappus 2–3 mm long Flowers summer.
