Perennials. Leaves basal. Inflorescence a loose, few-flowered panicle. Spikelets with 1 bisexual flower (rarely with a second sterile flower above); glumes paired, longer than the floret (excluding awn); floret articulate above glumes, cylindric, hairy; callus slender, hairy; lemma firm, the margins meeting or overlapping, 3-awned from apex; central awn longer and stouter than the 2 outer awns; palea firm slightly longer than lemma but enclosed by it in the lower part, 2-lobed at apex; stamens 3.
Monotypic genus endemic in south-eastern Australia.
