Tufted annual. Leaves all basal, alternate, narrow-linear, erect. Inflorescence of 1–several sessile to shortly pedunculate, basal, cup-shaped capitula, usually much shorter than leaves; involucral bracts c. 2-seriate, oblong, with a firm basal part and herbaceous to papery apex; receptacle minute, flat; outer florets female, 1–few-seriate, corolla conical, very narrow at the apex with 3–5 minute acuminate lobes, style branches linear, glabrous or with a few apical hairs; inner florets fewer than outer, narrow-campanulate, functionally male, 4-lobed, anthers with a very short, linear apical appendage. Cypselas flattened-turbinate, sericeous, with apically notched hairs; pappus of c. 10 free, overlapping obovate scales.
An endemic Australian monotypic genus.
