Hydrocotyle pilifera var. glabrata
Benth.Erect annual to c. 12 cm high, glabrous to glabrescent; stems branching from base, primary branch often terminating in an umbel and overtopped by secondary branches. Cotyledons oblong, 4-8 mm long, present when fruit mature. Leaf-lamina reniform, 5–25 mm across, with scattered hairs mostly on the lower surface, (3–)5-lobed to about midway to base; lobes cuneate, crenate to toothed; petiole 1.5–2.5 cm long, sparsely hairy to glabrous; stipules conspicuous, membranous, ovate, more or less entire, white. Umbels simple, leaf-opposed, globose, 3–6 mm diam., 3–15-flowered; peduncle 5–18 mm long; pedicels 1–1.5 mm long. Petals yellow-white. Fruits c. 1.3 mm long, c. 2 mm wide, red-brown; mericarps with very obtuse and thick dorsal and intermediate ribs connected by 5 or 7 thick, blunt transverse ridges with deep depressions between ridges; area between intermediate ribs slightly colliculate. Flowers winter and spring.
LoM. Also WA, SA. In Victoria known from two collections from the northwest in Melaleuca uncinata and Eucalyptus scrub on orange sand and in mallee on white sand.
Description based largely on South Australian plants.
