Tufted perennials. Leaves flat or inrolled. Inflorescence a panicle. Spikelets 2(–3)-flowered; glumes 2, 1–3-nerved persistent, subequal, membranous, shorter than or equal to florets; lemma obscurely 5-nerved, obtuse, irregularly toothed, shortly hairy toward the base, awned dorsally; palea 2-nerved, equal to lemma.
