Matricaria discoidea
DC. Rayless ChamomileErect, glabrescent, much-branched, pineapple scented annual, 5–45 cm high. Leaves oblanceolate to obovate in outline, mostly 2–4.5 cm long, 10–20 mm wide, 2- or 3-pinnatisect, ultimate lobes under 1 mm wide, base amplexicaul, Capitula 1–3, terminating leafy branches, 5–9 mm diam., enlarging in fruit; peduncles to c. 1 cm long; involucral bracts oblong, 2.5–4 mm long. Ray florets absent; disc florets numerous, exceeding involucre, greenish-yellow; corolla 4-lobed. Cypselas 1.2–1.5 mm long, 3- or 4-ribbed on inner face, resin glands elongate, pale brown; pappus a minute scarious crown to c. 0.1 mm long. Flowers Sep.–Jan.
VVP. Also naturalised SA, NSW, Tas., New Zealand. Native to Europe, Asia and possibly North America. Known from a few scattered sites mostly in southern Victoria, usually on roadsides, in cultivated land and other disturbed sites.
