Plants 1–2.8 mm tall on small fastigiated tufts of protonema. Leaves 6–10; costae excurrent in an awn or failing before apex; margins plane, entire or distantly serrulate in basal half, usually bluntly toothed toward apex; laminal cells rectangular, rhomboidal to hexagonal, 25–100 μm long, 8–15 μm wide, smooth; perichaetial leaves narrowly lanceolate, 0.5–2.5 mm long, recurved or secund, with acute or acuminate apex, often with a terminal awn. Capsules subglobose to ellipsoidal, 0.5–0.6 mm long. Calyptrae cucullate.
LoM. On damp soil near watercourses in the north-west of the state. Also WA, QLD and NSW. Southern Africa.
