Small trees or shrubs, with simple hairs. Leaves opposite, rarely subopposite; 1- or 3-foliolate; leaflet margins entire. Inflorescence axillary, cymose or paniculate, rarely 1-flowered. Flowers bisexual; sepals 4, free or basally fused; petals 4, valvate, free, deciduous; stamens 8, free, spreading; ovary 4-(rarely 8-)locular, style arising terminally from ovary, stigma small, not or slightly wider than style, ovules 2 per loculus. Fruit a drupe; seeds dull to shiny, black.
43 species, from India through southern Asia to the Pacific islands; 18 species (15 endemic) in eastern Australia.
